Here at Pebble Beach Web Design we create websites for artists and charities as well as any other small business. We specialise in simple, clean websites which are simple to update, easy to view and use and quick to load. We recognise that artists and charities (and indeed any small business) needs to be very aware of cost, and therefore we aim to provide straightforward websites at the lowest practical cost, while still giving all the benefits of having a custom-designed website which is actively and professionally managed.

How much will it cost to create my web site?
Naturally, the cost will vary depending on the size, complexity and various other factors. However, a standard website of 4-5 pages, which is often the best choice for an individual artist or small business will be done for a fixed price of £200. This cost includes the first year's hosting and maintenance and a .co.uk domain name (other domain names such as .com or .org cost more, just ask for details).
After the first year, the current price for hosting and maintenance will be £100 for the site. This maintenance includes periodic changes to keep your site well positioned on the search engines, any updates required by you such as changes to phone numbers, email, etc., reasonable changes to the text of the pages and a fair number changes per year to the content of the gallery.
If you have a more extensive gallery, or wish to make frequent changes and additions to it, we will charge by the hour for extra updates above and beyond the first 20. Alternatively, we can include a Content Management System to allow you to manage your portfolio of photographs and the text of your pages for yourself, at the extra cost of £50 for initial set-up and £25 per year to cover additional support issues. What would be included in a typical artist's website?
Every website we design is custom developed according to the needs of the client, so we can include almost anything. However, most artist's websites follow a fairly similar pattern, and we would generally recommend sticking to that, unless you have a particular reason to be different.
An artist would typically have- home/introduction page
- gallery/portfolio, including up to 50 photos
- biography
- list of exhibitions, or where to see the work
- links and other resources
- contact information
If you have an extensive portfolio/gallery then there would be an additional cost of £20 per extra page. Alternatively, you may want to consider the option of managing the gallery.
What would be included in a typical small business website?
Although the needs of business websites will vary tremendously, and we will custom design any feature needed, most small businesses have similar needs for their website.
A standard small business would usually have some of
- home/introduction page
- product information
- order form
- management team
- list of past customers, references, etc.
- links and other resources
- contact information
For the standard, fixed cost website described above we would include a form to allow customers to ask for additional information, or to place orders with you, but would not include any on-line ordering. What is needed for a satisfactory shopping-basket and shopping experience is very dependent on the business.
Will my website be easy to find in a search engine such as Google?
Making your web site easy to find is very important. We will incorporate current best practice for making your pages attractive to the various search engines, and help with getting your pages well positioned in the search engine results.
We will also take care of adding your information to the appropriate directories, which also helps with search engine positioning. We provide monitoring of the search engine results, and make suitable suggestions about the site to enable you to keep a good position.
Can I add new photographs myself?
If you have a fairly small gallery / portfolio, and it doesn't change too frequently, then it is perhaps easiest to just get us to maintain the gallery for you. You simply email any change or new photo to us, and we will incorporate it, typically within 24 hours.
If you have frequent changes, or a larger portfolio, then we can set up a Content Management System for you, which would allow you to add, replace or remove photos, as well as to update the associated text information.
